Wooden Timber Inspection at Dar es Salaam ICD: Size & Moisture Determination

by jason

KAJOTE General Superintendence Co. Ltd successfully conducted a wooden timber inspection at the Dar es Salaam Inland Container Depot (ICD), focusing on size verification and moisture content determination. This inspection was carried out to provide independent assurance on cargo quality, quantity, and compliance with client and industry requirements.

Timber products require careful evaluation due to their sensitivity to moisture variation and dimensional accuracy, both of which directly impact usability, value, and downstream processing. KAJOTE’s inspection ensured that the timber met the specified standards prior to further handling or distribution.

Timber Size Verification

During the inspection, KAJOTE surveyors systematically measured the timber to confirm:

  • Length, width, and thickness of individual pieces

  • Compliance with contractual size specifications

  • Uniformity and consistency across inspected bundles

  • Identification of undersized, oversized, or irregular pieces

All measurements were conducted using calibrated measuring tools and standard sampling methods to ensure accuracy and repeatability.

Moisture Content Determination

Moisture content is a critical parameter in timber quality assessment. Excessive moisture may lead to warping, fungal growth, or reduced structural integrity. KAJOTE performed moisture content determination using approved moisture meters to:

  • Establish average moisture levels within sampled timber

  • Identify any abnormal or uneven moisture distribution

  • Assess suitability for intended use, storage, or export requirements

Findings were recorded and evaluated against applicable standards and client specifications.

Reporting & Independent Assurance

Following completion of the inspection, KAJOTE issued a clear and detailed inspection report, outlining size measurements, moisture content results, observations, and any deviations noted. This independent reporting supports informed decision-making for buyers, sellers, and logistics providers.
